Ninety players teed off today in the first day of qualifying at Norwood Hills in the 89th St Louis District Greisedieck Men's Championship. Scott Horton of The Falls Golf Club in O'Fallon led the field with a 4-under par 67. He was followed by three players who posted 68's; Skip Berkmeyer of Norwood Hills, Matt Hines of Fox Run and Jonathan Prange of Bogey Hills. Close behind at 1-under par are Fox Run's Ted Moloney and Meadowbrook's Scott Thomas. Defending Champion Dustin Ashby of Winghaven shot an even par 71, along with Tom Barry of Normandie and Andrew Pranger of Fox Run. Justin Bardgett, winner of the Missouri Amateur last week, is in with a 73. Friday's round will determine which players will advance to match play. Horton and Prange tee off Friday at 9:40 AM, with Hines going off at 11:00 AM and Berkmeyer in a group at 12:30 PM.

Day 2
The second day of qualifying for the St. Louis District Greisedieck Men's Championship over the West Course at Norwood Hills CC saw a strong move from the newly crowned Missouri Amateur Champion, Justin Bardgett. The Meadowbrook player improved his position by posting a 5-under 66 to move four strokes behind medalist Skip Berkmeyer, three-time winner of the title, who added a 4-under 67 to go along with his 68 from day one for a 135 total. Former Missouri Amateur Champion and 1993 District Champion, Scott Thomas posted his second consecutive 70 to finish in the third qualifying spot. Matt Hines, Defending Champion Dustin Ashby and Justin Bryant each finished at 141. First day leader Scott Horton could not match his opening 67 as he ballooned to a 77. Others who qualified for match play include: Tom Barry, Andrew Pranger, 2006 Champion Dustin Lundgren, Ted Moloney, Matt Kopsky, Van Pierce, Mitchell Gregson, Joe Timpone and Chris Brant. Play continues Saturday at 8:30 AM with Berkmeyer taking on Brant. The last group tees off at 9:40. Play will continue in the afternoon with the quarterfinal matches. The semifinal and finals will be played Sunday.

Day 3
If it's Sunday, Skip Berkmeyer will probably be in the hunt in the final round of an amateur golf tournament. This weekend is no different, as Berkmeyer is one of four players remaining in the St. Louis District Golf Association Greisedieck Men's Championship at Norwood Hills.
Berkmeyer, who lost in the finals of the Missouri Amateur to Justin Bardgett just a week ago, faces Matt Hines in one semifinal at 9 a.m.
Joe Timpone meets Wake Forest freshman Justin Bryant at 9:10. The 18-hole final will follow. Berkmeyer beat Chris Brant 5 and 4 in the morning round Saturday but struggled in the afternoon quarterfinal and held on to beat Andrew Pranger in 20 holes. He was up by 4 through 11 holes but let Pranger back in the match. The two were even after 18 holes. "I just made a couple of mistakes and got frustrated," Berkmeyer said. "He found a way to get back to even. He made some good shots. It was a dogfight the last two holes." Berkmeyer carded a birdie on the 20th hole and Pranger finished with a par. In other play, Hines beat Van Pierce 3 and 2 and Matt Kopsky 5 and 4. Timpone beat Bardgett and Tom Barry 2 up. Bryant defeated Ted Moloney 2 up and Mitchell Gregson 2 and 1. Defending champion Dustin Ashby was defeated by Kopsky 4 and 2.

Day 4
Skip Berkmeyer ended his 275-hole, two-tournament marathon by winning his fourth St. Louis District Golf Association Greisedieck Men's
Championship at Norwood Hills in north St. Louis County. Berkmeyer defeated Joe Timpone 5 and 4 in the final match. Over the past 13 days, Berkmeyer has endured the Missouri Amateur, where he lost in the finals, and the Greisedieck event. Berkmeyer said the turning point against Timpone came at No. 7, where he scrambled in a steady rain to gain momentum. Berkmeyer's tee shot missed the green to the right and hit the cart path. He punched a shot onto the green and made an 80-foot putt. "I think that turned the tide," Berkmeyer said. "I birdied No. 8 and went 4 up and I think that did it." He advanced to the final by beating Matt Hines 1 up in the morning semifinal. The two were tied going to 17 and Berkmeyer carded a birdie. Timpone advanced by downing Justin Bryant 1 up. The Greisedieck title was the fourth for Berkmeyer. The last player to win four times was Jim Holtgrieve. Other four-time winners are Jimmy Mannion and Clarence Wolff. Bob Cochran has won the title a record eight times in the 89-year history of the tournament.
